Owsley Stanley was a sound engineer, an LSD cook, and the co-designer of the iconic Grateful Dead “Steal Your Face” symbol. There are a lot of things you can learn – even if you are over 60 like me – click the link below the graphic. It’s safe.
They are related to one another – not all the same – though all of their origins are European!
2015 Celebration: February 12 – 18
The word Fasching dates back to the 13th century and is derived from the Germanic word vaschanc or vaschang, in modern German: Fastenschank = the last serving of alcoholic beverages before Lent. In olden times the 40-day Lenten period of fasting was strictly observed. People refrained from drinking alcohol or eating meat, milk products and eggs. The English word “fast” (to refrain from eating) is related to German fasten.
Karneval, on the other hand, is a newer, much more recent (17th century), Latin-based word borrowed from French and Italian. The true origin of the word is uncertain, but it probably comes from Latin carne levare (“away with meat”) >carnelevale > Karneval or Carnival. In earlier times, the German word was even written with a C rather than today’s K-spelling. (Some German carnival associations still use the Carneval spelling in their names.)
The Carnevale in medieval Venice is one of the earliest documented carnival celebrations in the world. It featured still-popular traditions, including carnival parades, masks and masquerade balls. Gradually the Italian Carnevale customs spread north to other Catholic European countries, including France. From France it spread to the German Rhineland and, through colonization, even to North America (Mardi Gras).
The third common term for carnival in German, Fastnacht, refers to the Swabian-Alemannic carnival, which differs in some ways from Fasching and Karneval, and is found in Baden-Württemberg, Franconia (northern Bavaria), Hessen (Wiesbaden/Frankfurt) and much of Switzerland. Although this word looks like it comes from the German for the “eve of Lent,” in fact it is based on the Old German word fasen (“to be foolish, silly, wild”). Thus the word, sometimes spelled Fasnacht (without the t) actually means something like “night of being wild and foolish.”
The essential error of the Obama presidency is an unfounded belief that greater government power—in our pocketbooks, in our private lives—will make America more prosperous and free. President Obama’s faith in concentrated power was on full display in tonight’s State of the Union address.
Working families feel squeezed by higher health care costs and tuition bills. Those fortunate enough to hold steady jobs haven’t seen a raise in years. They worry about their children’s future and their country’s.
The president seems to have only one answer for them: enlarge the size and scope of the federal government. To help middle-class Americans, the president demands more than $300 billion of tax hikes and a new round of stimulus spending. To rein in education costs, the president creates a federal education entitlement, the type of which led to skyrocketing tuition in the first place. To fix our health care system, the president touts the same law that has caused prices to rise and stripped families of access to their doctors. To make the financial system more stable, the president threatens to veto reforms to Dodd-Frank, his law that made banks bigger than ever. And to protect Americans’ privacy, he offers yet another report instead of reining in his own spies.
Higher federal taxes, more federal spending, and greater federal control of our lives haven’t worked over the past six years. Our country is beginning to turn the corner not because of government but in spite of it. Instead of faith in Washington, let’s put faith in Americans to determine their own lives. Let’s give liberty a chance. ~ Justin Amash, Jan. 20, 2015
What Does It Mean To Have A Dream and Believe in America?
Can we honestly say that the system needs to be completely reworked and that we need to start all over again from the beginning? Our Values are not worth building upon? Maybe the way things are just need to be better communicated or re-inserted back into the public education system. Maybe ‘change‘ for the sake of change is not the right answer. Do we sit silently while millions of $$ Dollars go toward negative campaigning and not toward economic growth, rebuilding infrastructure and other job producing efforts?
Is it not the right of every American to be able to hold personal values high and to preserve precious opinions without having to be compared or cast as a violent enemy terrorist by a whimpering competitor? What makes it even harder to understand is that an established media can now be ‘purchased’ and once fair and honest news sources will paint, print and promote one side of an issue with the intention of wreaking absurd nonsense upon common sense thought. Follow the money……………Yes…..It takes money.
On July 18, 2014, we are hosting a moneybomb. We have one chance to keep Justin Amash in office, and continue filling Congressional seats with people who will uphold their oath to the Constitution. By donating whatever we can to help his campaign, we will show the establishment just how strong the desire for liberty is.

What Does It Mean To Hold a Conviction of Value in Anything?
Progressive this………Progressive That……………..Polyanna wants Change!
Maybe the way things are just need to be better communicated or re-inserted back into the public education system. Maybe ‘change‘ for the sake of change is not the right answer.
Is it not every right of every American born in America to be able to hold personal values and opinions without having to be compared or cast a federal terrorist by a whimpering competitor or the collected opposition? What makes it even harder to understand is that an established media source prints or promotes one childish quote from a common thinker across the country and it becomes front page news.
I’m not ashamed or afraid of the way I was brought up – I am thankful and proud to have learned things about life just the way I did. I don’t have to apologize for my beliefs and I will engage anyone who may hold a differing point of view reasonably and calmly without taking to the airwaves screaming about international catastrophe.
Come On America. You don’t have to be Polyanna just because you got your hands dirty.
